Stockdale has celebrated what is known as the "Watermelon Jubilee" since 1937. The annual event remains today one of oldest watermelon celebrations in Texas and harks back to a time when this crop was a staple of Stockdale's economy. Third Full Weekend of June
Stockdale's past is full of stories, legends and characters. What started as a railroad stop in the late 1800's eventually grew into a bustling town that included four churches, a school, two mills, two blacksmith shops, two general stores, a grocery store and a drugstore. Other industries sprang up including a planing mill that manufactured furniture and cabinets. Today you can still see the historic Victorian architecture reflected through out the town.
